Recap

Spidey and Black Cat have their backs against the wall, cornered by the thieves guild! Can the duo regain the treasures of the global superhero community? Meanwhile elsewhere MJ participates in a support group for superhero loved ones, baring her soul to the anonymous butlers, sidekicks and parents in the group.

Review

An interesting and thought provoking issue with multiple plots and a well written statement from MJ laid over a massive fight. This might be my favorite issue of Spencer’s run yet, which I’ve been admittedly hot and cold on since the start. MJ’s breakdown of why she loves Pete was pitch perfect and made for an excellent narrative against the backdrop of the fight scene.

One thing i really enjoyed was a small nod to “One More Day”, which is largely ignored. (for good reason) Also answering a question I never thought to ask, when Peter had Mephisto erase his identity things remained like Felicia and Peter’s relationship, but with his identity erased, Felicia remembers the relationship but not Spidey’s identity. Super interesting and just the kind of pointless clarification i like to see.

The art by Humberto Ramos and Michele Bandini was the best I’ve seen from this series yet with a couple minor exceptions, really well done issue. I particularly enjoyed a random throwaway panel of Venom midway through MJ’s monologue, Eddie looked great!

I also appreciated the final page as a nod to the overarching big picture plot, which i wish we’d get some answers on already.

Final Thoughts

If this is the style and tone of the series going forward I'll be on board, i was down on some story elements that i feel have been improved and I'm happy with the book for now.
