Recap

Spider-man has been reunited with himself, now its time to let his hair down like Spider-Man said, (sounds dumb when you say it out loud) and there's sweet trivia money to be had at the bar with no name. His roommate Boomerang wants to bond over some beers and cash in on Peter's "friendship" with Spidey.

True to form the ole Parker luck kicks in and Petey boy finds himself in the crosshairs of a couple dozen supervillains looking to cap his roommate for Fisk. A spectacular battle ensues, and we see more of this weird demon fella, who subjugates Fisk rather than killing him. "Who is this guy?" is the question practically no one is asking, I'm sure it'll make sense someday maybe probably.

Review

This arc so far feels like a turning point in the so far lackluster Nick Spencer run on Amazing Spider-man, storytelling feels infinitely better and a missing element from the FCBD issue has reemerged, FUN. This issue has action and some grit but all of that is tempered with a light-hearted entertaining overarching banter between Fred and Peter that ends in a genuinely sweet moment.

I will say the notion of Spider-Man competing in a trivia contest about himself is pretty funny, but not unlike the rest of this cameo-laden series it feels like Spencer is just going out of his way to name drop lower-tier villains and lesser-known events in Spidey canon to show us how much he knows. Bendis is being skewered for the same reason over at Superman.

The art by Humberto Ramos is a little cartoony for my taste but works really well with the tone of the series, i’ll be glad when Ottley comes back.

Final Thoughts

Better than last arc, this arc so far hasn't blown my mind but I will continue buying it for now.
