The Dreaming # 18

Recap
The Dreaming is being ripped apart as dreams are stripped of everything that makes them a dream. Rose Walker doesn’t feel like herself and follows her gut. Matthew and Abel hurry to rescue Dora before it is too late.
Review
I have had no idea what is going to happen the last few issues and I love it. Dora has been one of my favorite characters in The Dreaming. She is one of the new characters for the series and she definitely feels like she belongs. I did not know if she was expendable or not. So going into this issue I thought she was a goner. It was really tough to watch a bunch of blanks beating her senseless. It is tough for a comic to make me look away but these panels were powerful (congrats to Sauvage). We now know Dora is far from expendable. With the help of Rose Walker, it is revealed that Dream hid the dream stone in Dora. I am curious to see what happens next. Lucien is back at the end of this issue and he says they can bring Daniel back. My prediction is that they can save Daniel and Dreaming but not to its original glory.
I am a huge fan of The Dreaming’s usual art team, Bilquis Evely and Mat Lopes, but Marguerite Sauvage does the series just as much justice. Sauvage compliments this issue so greatly because of their use of color. The issue is saturated with shades of red. It really helps push the urgency of what is happening to the reader. Rose Walker is the one standout of the issue. Story and art wise. She is dressed in yellow as if she is made of light. Sauvage beautifully depicts the colors of the spectrum that flows from Rose. I know Lopes would have been great but Sauvage executes this perfectly.
The Dreaming has consistently kept me entertained. I have not been let down by a single issue. In other series, I often feel ripped off when not much happens and then the issue ends with a tease of the next issue. With The Dreaming, even when not much happens I am still satisfied. Spurrier and whatever artists he is working with always put out quality and exciting issues. A lot happens in The Dreaming #18 and by the looks of it even bigger things will happen in #19.
Final Thoughts
This issue had stellar writing and beautiful art. The Dreaming has been one of the only series that I reread the current issue a couple of times. I am a big fan and recommend picking up this issue at your local comic book shop or wherever you get your comics.
