The Dreaming #4: Come Eat My Dreams

I am really enjoying this story and the book is quickly establishing itself as a solid read. Evely’s beautiful work is simultaneously simple in its execution while also offering plenty of detail. Her use of space and panel arrangements flows creatively while but still guides the reader clearly and naturally through the story. The story itself builds on familiar themes — seeking help in times of crisis, willing to give ultimate power to a strong hand only to find the fist strikes wide — but in an interesting way.

Spurrier draws from several mythologies (including some of his own making) to bring a fresh take on old themes of mistrust, miscarriages of cruel (in)justice, and the fear of others ruling reason. Clearly intended to be a cautionary tale of willingly giving up freedom for security, the story brings home its message wrapped up in brilliant storytelling and beautiful art.
