Review

Remember those cool Silver Age books that had stuff like “The Cowboy Batman” or “The Superman of the Apes!” on them? This issue of the Flash could easily be one of those books. Author Jeremy Adams has a really good time writing this book, and it shows. A Dark Crisis tie-in, the search for the one man who can end it continues, and spoiler alert: they find him, but they don’t. It’s great to see the spotlight shined on some Flash supporting characters who we haven’t gotten to see in a while. Adams puts some great characters back at the head of the pack, and we get to enjoy it. You can also feel the “weight” of this book. The consequences are pretty dire if they don’t find this hero, so there’s a great atmosphere of foreboding throughout the whole book yet, Adams makes sure to put some light-heartedness into the issue. This story is one that’s pretty important to the Dark Crisis series, it’s one that will actually add to your enjoyment of that series.

Artist Amancay Nahuelpan uses all his talents this issue as his style changes a few times this issue and when I say changes, I mean it TOTALLY changes. Like from McFarlane-Esque to straight-up sweet, innocent silver age fun, and many in between. He’s definitely made things look easy, as well as very enjoyable. He also creates an “heavy” atmosphere in the book, making you constantly remember just what is on the line here. The art is enjoyable on so many different levels.

Final Thoughts

A very enjoyable comic and an important part of your Dark Crisis experience. I highly recommend you grab this one!
