Review

Man what a jam packed issue, Adam Strange has appeared several times recently but this is the first time he’s been anything more than a prop with no goals of his own. Rann feels more fleshed out than it has been in years with appearances by Strange’s father in law Sardath, wife Allanna and daughter. The only thing I was missing was some of Rann’s wildlife but so much happened this issue I’m not knocking it. This appearance just held so much more weight than others in the Superman books and Justice League.

No spoilers, but the end of this issue was bizarre! I was so confused but so far I’ve been really impressed with this series and I’ll bear with Gmo as always.

The pencil and ink art by Liam Sharp is truly phenomenal, not to nitpick retroactively but I feel like he’s getting better and better. It’s truly spectacular at all times with one caveat. In a marvel esque fashion there are a ton of panels with no backgrounds, which takes depth away from the setting and events occurring. Not bad art so much as a lack of art, I dunno.

An entire pivotal scene seemingly taking place in a featureless void.

Colors by the talented Steve Oliff really sparkles in the early pages containing a lot of buildings and sunsets, I would buy a poster of that title page, it’s impressive!

I am a little sad to say the prolific Steve Wands’ letter work is perfectly serviceable, but a couple steps down from industry legend Tom Orzechowski, who is taking a couple issues off presumably to work on Spawn #200, a series he helped launch.

Final Thoughts

Really really solid issue. So interesting.
