Review

So what happens when an evil hipster startup CEO and his horde of brainwashed associates kidnaps the wrong kickass superhero? You get The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #8!

Let’s take this issue for what it is, a superhero story about punching baddies and saving the day. While not every issue in Magnificent Ms. Marvel is founded on this fundamental superhero aspect, issue eight shows Kamala can take out baddies as good as, or even better, than just about anyone else in the vast Marvel Universe. Monopoly might not be the strongest or most well known villain, but he can sure pack a punch. Even then, Kamala puts him in his place!

This issue does one thing remarkably well…it’s FUN. There is drama, sure, but the story focuses on the situation at hand and even throws in a few surprises as well. The fight against Monopoly is undoubtedly the highlight of the issue, but we also get hints that Kamala’s new suit might not be all its hyped up to be. This is almost certainly going to force her to confront her Kree origins once again in the future, but for now, Kamala is just lucky she had it to help bring down Monopoly.

It’s difficult to not have a great time reading this book, the visuals are stunning and dynamic, packed with gorgeous colors. The characterizations are spot on and the action is thoroughly engaging. This is essentially just what I want out of a classic superhero comic, framed for today’s world.

We know there is drama surrounding Kamala’s life right now, but it was a breath of fresh air to get her saving the day once again without so many layers of conflict occurring. This issue might be simplistic in its approach, but I believe its honestly all the better for it. It’s okay for a book to just be a lot of fun to engage with, especially when you know much more dramatic developments are right around the corner.

Overall, The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #8 is a truly exciting issue packed with action and one or two surprises to keep you hooked. This creative team is taking Kamala to some very interesting places in this series, and I am interested to see what’s next. This is a perfect book for newcomers looking to jump into the action, but longtime fans will find plenty to enjoy as well. Don’t miss out!
