The Omega Book 4
Recap
Last month, The Omega Book was left on a cliffhanger where everything hit the fan. The unique thing about this story is that it is a sci-fi thriller but has a ton of heart. I think that heart gets ripped out this issue as each character gets what they asked for but not the results they wanted.
Review
This art is just so dang beautiful; I cannot praise it enough. As last month, there will be no spoilers here; however, there are two panels where the letterer was truly in sync, and they blurred out the letters to match what was going on in the story. I do not think I have ever seen that before. Unique colors match the energy of each scene. Power, depression – I seriously believe if you are not reading this comic from Mad Cave, you need to add it to your collection.
We see the big bad of the series get what he wants, but does he? This should feel like a big victory for him, but to be honest, he has sacrificed everything, and you can tell he still is not satisfied. This will make him more compelling in my opinion because now what? I don’t think he knows, and that will make him more dangerous. The person he took off the board was a side antagonist, and her dialogue before going was perfect because it fit every character in the story. If this were a TV show, I could see the scene in slow motion and go back and forth as she says her last words.
Each of these characters, protagonist and antagonist, wants more power, more information, but what happens when you get it? What happens when you risk everything for that information but lose yourself and the information that is more important than the information you are seeking? That is what the story is asking you. Seeing these illustrations, it looks bleak to me, but I think it is a fair question to ask. I hope the story doesn’t go down the route of the standard hero-versus-villain soon because what they are doing is so good and unique.
Final Thoughts
Overall, another strong issue, but now that two main players are off board. What is next? The chessboard is reset, and we are back to square one, and for as good an issue as this is. I am excited to see where the story goes from here.
