The Outsiders #4: Superhuman

Following multiple reviews of the series, the concept of a couple of DC’s heroes solving mysteries of the fictional universe sounds intense and gripping. It can be, regardless of of what characters the writers decide to go with. If there’s anything worth saying about Outsiders, it’s that it can start off strong but go downhill quickly. In fact, the only way a series like this could really thrive would be after some major comic book event, but even so, it can be said with confidence that this story doesn’t thrive off the last Beast World event.

The story begins with this issue telling the tale of a character named Jennifer Cressi, or simply Jenny. Born to average parents, she was extraordinarily connected with the frequencies of the Earth. Whatever she felt, the world would feel it too, leaving seismic impacts. What makes her important in this issue is that she felt frustration at the fact that she threw a party, had a good time with someone, and then got friend-zoned.

Feeling all sorts of things, her frustrations quite literally wreak havoc on he world.

Batwoman and Batwing chase after her, until Jenny makes it to a bench where she meets Drummer. After multiple pages of dialogue, Jenny is stable and not about to end the world in the most tragic ways imaginable.

As a quick note on the art, it’s beautiful and amusing to look it. Carey has a grunge kind of style that plays Nirvana songs in the back of my mind. However, while the story takes place in London, it’s not important enough to emphasize it on the cover.
