The Terminator/Transformers #1: Scrapping Metal

I never thought that I wanted to see these two properties crossover. I mean, sure you have the whole robot connection, but beyond that what else is there that could link the two properties together? Turns out there are a few things, and that’s just in this issue. Writers David Mariotte and John Barber (with a story assist by Tom Waltz) start us off with a great issue that’s almost all The Terminator’s perspective, which is fine because it gives a lot more gravity to when we finally get to see the Transformers. The authors did a really great job of sneaking them into where you were expecting them the least. It’s nice to see a Terminator story that doesn’t follow or rehash the movie again, which seems to have been done at least once every two years for the past decade. I refuse to believe John Connor was the only important person in the war against the machines. But, this issue is a great set up for what looks to be a fast-paced, flat out fun comic story. Even though we’re not quite there yet, this is definitely a summer blockbuster told in comic form.

Artist Alex Milne is always at the top of his game. Transformers fans will be very familiar with him and I’m betting Terminator fans picking this up will take to him very quickly. As always, the art here is great. Milne has a natural storytelling ability that comes through on the pages. If this is your first exposure to him, I’m willing to bet you’re going to remember his name.
