Review

The Vigil #3 balances action and espionage set pieces fluidly, making for an entertaining read that also builds out an exciting world in DC Comics.

The Vigil has consistently been a refreshing story in the world of comics in that it enhances the world of the DC Universe while also feeling entirely original. Issue #3 has two tracks in the plot: one following Nia, the Vigil’s new handler, and Saya, the master infiltrator.

Readers experience how The Vigil can be tactful and also explosive when it needs to be. The issue has all of the core members Castle, Dodge, Saya, and Arclight, and each gets their moment to shine.

Written by Ram V, the issue was new reader friendly and left me with just the right amount of questions to be excited about issue 4.

This issue is halfway through the story arc, and already I’m hoping the team continues well beyond the typical six-issue run. The series has been well-done, but this issue stood out among the first three. Saya’s power set is among the coolest, and it was great to have an issue centered on him and the challenges of a man who always has to change his face.

The art continues to be top-notch. Done by Lalit Kumar Sharma (art) and Rain Beredo & Lee Loughridge (colors), the design work, set pieces, and panels are well done, giving familiar yet otherworldly themes. The covers continue to be stellar with the black and red theme. Sumit Kumar has yet to design a lousy cover.
