Recap

The shadowy vigilante known only as The Visitor strikes again, this time though we get a peak behind the curtain. While the U.N. and Japanese officials scramble to try to thwart The Visitor's attacks, we see that his connection to Japanese government is much more personal than we first were lead to believe. Somehow this mystery man has come back through time to thwart the secret projects the Japanese delegation are working on. The how and why still remains a mystery but one thing does not: The Visitor himself isn't just wearing a sick suit of armor, he is not fully human.

Review

Paul Levitz is brewing a good ol’ fashioned slow burn here, while the events as the happen are entertaining enough he’s warming us up for a grand reveal. Given the nature of the Visitor comics in the past this is sort of to be expected but while he honors the older version’s vibe Levitz is clearly not just rehashing it.

The nature of the abilities revealed so far seemed to have narrowed the potential candidates (from Livewire in disguise to the currently MIA Ninjak) but with the latest bomb drop that the Visitor is both an augmented human and from the future….Levitz blows the possibilities wide open again. The funny part is that a book with so much ambiguity is somehow still extremely straightforward: The Visitor is a highly capable and highly dangerous man who’s relentless in his mission to change the future. The Japanese government involved here is single minded in their dedication to this secret project The Visitor seeks to thwart. The bottom line of it is once you strap into this ride, you’d better be ready to ride it until the end because Levitz is keeping a lid on anything that might spoil the reveal and giving just enough to balance between intriguing and maddening. Each issue is like a season finale that has you ready to flip a table in protest that you’ll have to wait for the next installment (but in a good way.)
