The Visitor #3
- The Visitor's origin revealed!?
- As the unkillable assassin continues hunting his targets, the fate of the future begins to come into focus.
Here’s the deal. The Visitor is a delicately plotted sci-fi international thriller that relies on a single fundamental storytelling element to entice readers to keep coming back…and that is the unknown. The creative team understands this all too well, and The Visitor #3 is our first real look into the inner workings of this dangerous new mystery.
Levitz has approached this series thus far with a sense of careful consideration, only leaving tidbits of information for readers to piece together along the way. This issue we see a change of pace with an enlightening moment revealing the motives of the strange new Visitor. Coming from a time long in the future, his presence brings both political and societal turmoil as he tries to prevent a tyrannical force in his own time.
It might have taken a little longer to really understand the implications of this series, but now that we have a more concrete direction it’s difficult not to be impressed with the larger picture. The character work with those on the trail of Visitor is building nicely and giving this issue in particular more heart, but it’s the mystery that everything hinges upon.
The visuals are among the best at Valiant, which is certainly saying something considering their range of talent. MJ Kim with Arreola’s colors deliver fast paced action with intriguing interactions that keep you wanting to turn the page. With Bowland’s precise lettering, the book reads like a truly satisfying thriller should.
Ultimately, I believe issue #3 of The Visitor is where everything comes together and gives context for where this series is going. A look into the origins and motivations of this Visitor is just what the series needed! Now that this direction is established, I hope to see a connection to the larger Valiant Universe next…
The Visitor #3 brings this intricately plotted and deeply riveting sci-fi thriller together with an exploration of international turmoil, delivering a dark twist no one saw coming along with some incredible artwork.
