Recap

It's the book that has everyone saying ''What am I looking at here?'' ''You should be ashamed of yourselves!'' and ''What is Dark Horse thinking!?'' From acknowledged bad eggs Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight, The Comic Book Story of Professional Wrestling) and Tony Gregori (Deuce of Hearts, Karma Police), it's the sci-fi detective story so dirty, so filthy, so repulsive it'll turn your other comics yellow.

Review

Oh boy, I love this book. I want to live in this book. Would I survive? Probably not. Would I have fun? Until my last breath. The series from the endlessly imaginative mind of Aubrey Sitterson continues to be a highlight of the summer. The Worst Dudes #3 follows Detective Sugar and company as they continue their search for Zephyr Monsoon. By issue #3, it’s obvious that finding her is easier said than done, but that clearly isn’t a bad thing. The ragtag team planet hops and ends up on Godhead, a planet described as shooting “stars, moons, and planets of all types, even flat ones like Earth“ out of divine spouts. Readers will find plump robot ninjas and leather daddy security forces on Godhead. Not crazy enough? How about a centaur with a giant … personality, who happens to be the last person to see Zephyr. There’s a lot to unpack.

Every panel on every page is a blast and wonderland of rock and roll debauchery. Tony Gregori’s visuals are like if Ed Roth of Rat Fink fame dropped acid and watched Star Wars. Gregori’s the type of artist that you could stare at his work all day and keep noticing new details that make the page that much better. The visuals alone, especially the coloring, are worth picking up a copy. Lovern Kindzierski’s colors are the glue that binds the series together and sets the tone to the over-the-top spectacle that is issue #3. It is also worth noting Taylor Esposito’s stellar lettering. Esposito keeps up with the crazy and adds little touches that seem perfect for the issue, or should I say purrfect? Together the creative team presents a feast for the perverted minds of comic book readers that will leave you saying, “I don’t know what I just saw but I think I loved it.”

Final Thoughts

The Worst Dudes #3 is a rock and roll fever dream of everything your parents told you was bad as a kid. You better buckle up.
