Recap

Finally, Dark Horse Comics can put this regrettable, loathsome series behind us, but not before incorrigible nogoodniks Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight, The Comic Book Story of Professional Wrestling) and Tony Gregori (Deuce of Hearts, Karma Police) bring shame on all our houses one last time with the bombastic conclusion to the raunchiest, most hilarious sci-fi mystery we've ever been completely embarrassed to love.

Review

I can take the black trash bags down from my windows and let daylight in now that The Worst Dudes has come to its conclusion and don’t have to worry what the neighbors will think. After five insanely bonkers issues, the unlikely trio of dudes can now take it easy. I revisited my review of issue #1 and came across this statement in my opening: “The Worst Dudes #1 is a fast-paced, space-opera-fever-dream worthy of its own 15-minute block on Adult Swim. If anyone from Adult Swim is reading this, make it happen.” I’d like to redact this statement and go on record that The Worst Dudes is worthy of a full 30-minute block. I don’t think people could handle anything longer or they’d have to call out sick the next day and go to confession.

The Worst Dudes #5 ends its run with a clash between Bang and his father, the Storm King. The encounter contained some of the best action of the series and really put Bang front and center. The character development throughout the series pays off and you really want to see Bang kick his dad’s butt. I was especially excited to see Bang get some punches in after seeing how creepy the Storm King is with his daughter. The reader is able to sit on the sidelines with Cal and Sam and see Bang defy both his mother and father. Between Bang and his mother and the Storm King and his daughter, they make Oedipus and Hamlet look like Bert and Ernie. While it might not be a happy ending for all, Cal inviting Sam and Bang to live with him is the cherry on top for this raunchiest adventure, plus we finally get to see those llamas we’ve been hearing so much about. Aubrey Sitterson, Tony Gregori, Lovern Kindzierski, and Taylor Esposito are a Megazord of creative talent. It is rare that you can see that every single person working on a book is having an absolute blast. I wish more books came with a warning label.

Final Thoughts

The Worst Dudes #5 concludes the raunchiest run in comics with an explosive climax and an ending so wholesome they should change the name to The Best Dudes!
