Recap

The Black Winter is here. Thor and Galactus now stand before it and the end of the multiverse!

Review

The comic community has been talking a lot about Thor. The Donny Cates title has earned that respect in just four issues and a vast array of fans including myself have been highly anticipating the release of this issue more than any other for over three months now and in short… it was absolutely worth the wait!

The issue opens with some sharp dialogue with allies of Thor who are in a subtle state of dismay with the absence of their king and friend. Cates is solidifying for the reader that this is the Odinson’s most daring conquest yet.

We then get into the thick of the action and battle finally getting our first taste of Black Winter through narrative as he (it?) taunts Thor, questioning whether he want to foresee how he will die and referring to the hero with never heard before titles such as ‘The End Butcher’ and ‘The End God’ I love this as I know Cates plans well ahead so I can envision a bigger meaning behind it!

Nic Klein showcases his remarkable talent as we see flawless action shots of Thor taking on Black Winter who is now portraying Thor’s greatest antagonists. Gorr, Loki, Malekith and even Jormungand to name a few! This is outstanding to witness for long time God of Thunder readers.

We then get treated get Thor flexing the immensely powerful God Blast which is still not powerful enough to destroy Black Winter but does goad it into revealing itself which until we find out more can only be described as a Dark Thor Replica. We then end the book on a huge bombshell in form of Black Winters true intentions that he is here to reclaim Galan of Taa, Galactus… Black Winter’s herald.

It’s a rare occasion when you can tell this early into a run that it is shaping up to be something special but that is exactly what Donny Cates is achieving. Each installment is better than the last and always keeps the reader at the edge of their seat. This is arguably the best comic ongoing right now.

Final Thoughts

Another phenomenal action packed issue from Cates and Klein that is sure to have everyone talking!
