Review

Thor / Shazam! Infinity Comic #1 is the Marvel Infinity Comic crossover contribution to the latest joint venture between the two major publishers that find thier respective lighting-based characters meeting up to confront a humanoid Mister Mind embued with the power of 10 gods and demons. Ewing summons Donald Blake and the classic Thor design for the story which works well for the over all tone of the story.

For this story Ewing gets to play in the DC Universe, setting the story within The Rock Of Eternity, which Blake travels to via the subway that has some Asgardian structures along the track. Along with the more classic elements, some of the more recent additions to tue Shazam mythos as The Wizard is Mamaragen, introduced in the Johns run post-Infinite Crisis.

The listing of the gods and demons that empower Mister Mind is a Who’s Who from both universes, and adds a moment of humor as Billy comments that Evil is mentioned twice via Mephisto and Darkseid. The vertical format of the issue plays well with Shazam and Thor changing via lightning strikes among other things as the art flows well scrolling the story vertically.

Ewing, who has proved he understands Thor, shows that if given the chance, he could also succeed writing a Shazam story for DC Comics down the line.

Final Thoughts

Thor / Shazam! Infinity Comic #1 shows that Ewing not only has a solid grasp on Thor, but could also, if given the opportunity, do the same for Shazam if given the chance, to work with the character.
