Review

Timeless #1 is a fun one-shot revolving around Kang the Conqueror and a scholar, named Dr. Petrov, who studies super villains. Kang drags Petrov through timelines as Kang finds out there are anomalies in the timeline.

Throughout this issue we get glimpses in time that tease events that readers will get to read in this coming year. There are hints and glimpses through the eyes of many characters and teams that will capture the interest of many readers. This was so fun to look at, and really gets you ready for the upcoming year in Marvel Comics.

Something that I also really enjoyed about this one-shot is that it is new reader friendly. As someone who hasn’t read a lot of comics involving Kang the Conqueror, I really appreciated that I could just jump right into this issue.

As far as the story, Jed Mackay does an excellent job writing this duo. Dr. Petrov’s narrative in the background throughout the issue was really fascinating. He gives his honest opinion of how he views Kang the Conqueror. This gives really good insight for both new and old readers to put in perspective of what kind of villain Kang is and how he thinks. There are also some surprise guests in this issue that I can’t get into without spoiling, but they really added to the story. It added to the timeline snapshots that we get early in the issue, to really make readers question what will go down in upcoming Marvel events next year.

On top of this awesome story, we get beautiful art by Kev Walker. The way Walker draws Kang the Conqueror feels very grand. Even when Kang is fighting people and creatures bigger than him, Kang never feels small. Complimented by Marte Gracia’s colors, every page was stunning from panel to panel.

Final Thoughts

Timeless #1 was a great one shot for any fan of Marvel comics. There’s a lot of surprises and gives a really cool glimpse into the Marvel Universe this year. Jed Mackay writes a fantastic story with gorgeous art by Kev Walker that is a perfect read to end the year and to open into the new year!
