Review
Raven’s transformation into the Dark-Winged Queen is final and Trigon has risen. The Titans must band together and stop these demons from taking over Earth in Titans #15. Written by Tom Taylor with art by Lucas Meyer and colors by Adriano Lucas, this issue is the epic finale of the Dark-Winged Queen arc as the Titans fight one of their own. Taking place just before the Absolute Power event, the Titans refuse to hold back against the powerful Trigon and call in recruitment from other heroes. Is the real Rachel Roth still in the Dark-Winged Queen, and if so, can the Titans reach her? This is the perfect finale to a perfect arc, with all of the friendship, love, and action necessary for a Titans comic.
I am a biased reviewer because I love a Raven storyline and I love Tom Taylor. However, I firmly believe that Titans is the best series coming out of DC right now and this has been the best story arc. Taylor has a way of writing stories that feel relatable and evoke emotions. Every character he writes is complex and he digs into their lives, so the reader is forced to care and relate. I feel like I’m doing a therapy session every time I read a Taylor book. This issue is perfectly paced, and seamlessly blends action and relationship-building like a Titans book should. I was a little worried, as I felt this was just another “White Raven” story, but it goes beyond that. The resolution in this arc highlights the fundamental fears of Raven, but with friends who love her for who she is, she is able to overcome these fears and be happy with herself. It’s something so many young readers can relate to, and honestly, Taylor is a literary genius! This whole arc will read so fantastically in trade and flow so well without a month-long gap between issues. Taylor’s writing is so good you just can’t put the comic down! Tom Taylor is writing the best Titans we’ve seen in a while and this is an era we will be talking about for years to come.
The art in this issue is absolutely stunning. Lucas Meyer and Adriano Lucas perfectly capture the essence of this iconic team and bring a fresh perspective while staying true to their classic looks. I mean, whenever Nightwing is on the page I can’t help but stare at his perfection. The character designs in this issue are meticulously crafted, with each member of the Titans team rendered with distinctive features that really underscore their personalities. The action sequences in this issue are also a particular highlight as they showcase Meyer’s skill in creating a sense of movement and impact. The panel layouts are dynamic, with well-choreographed fight scenes that pulse with energy. The use of perspective amplifies the intensity of combat, making every punch, kick, and superpower feel impactful. Meyer’s ability to balance chaos with clarity makes it easy to follow the action without losing track of the narrative flow. Also, the Titans turning into a Power Rangers-esque Megazord was incredible. This arc has been an absolute treat and I can’t wait to see what is next.
