“INTO THE BLEED” part two! The Titans are trapped on the perilous Unearth, far from home and standing in the face of not one but two evil armies. But hey, no sweat, right? Then, things take a turn for the worse when the commander of the opposition turns out to be one of their own, and the Titans will need to make some hard choices on the path to victory. Plus, what is Mother Blood’s connection to the Totality?
Review
I would have never thought to put the Titans into a fantasy setting but so far I am finding “Into the Bleed” to be an outstanding story arc with lots of epic battles as well as a good dose of mystery and suspense.
With Klye and Steel in the clutches of Mother Blood, along with Raven’s soul-self, it seems Ernest Hinton, the creator of Unearth may be the team’s only hope as Miss Martian, Donna, Beast Boy, and Raven seem unable to gain any ground on the armies of Unearth. This issue was a great mix of the Fantasy and Superhero genres and provided some shocking and exciting twists to the current story arc.
The art was perfectly suited to the wonder and epicness of the issue. With wide shots giving the a great depiction of the size and terror of the Unearth armies as they are illuminated by fire and the Titans against the darkness of Unearth “North Waste.” Meanwhile, tighter, more emotion-filled scenes are used to depict the intimacy and vulnerability of the interactions between Mother Blood and her prisoners.
I’m loving this arc so far and I can feel the excitement of the creative team jumping from the page. I can’t wait to read more of this arc.
Final Thoughts
This issue was a great progression to the "Into the Bleed" story and a great addition to the Titans series.
