Review
Titans Annual 2025 is a story focusing on Donna Troy, and it’s being written and drawn by Titans and Wonder Woman alum, Phil Jimenez. Donna’s absentee father reaches out to Donna to reconnect with the hopes to reconcile their relationship. Phil takes us on a walk down memory lane. Given her history It’s a deep dive into both Donna’s history over the years. A history that’s chock full of inconsistencies, that only brought more confusion to the fanbase. So without further ado, let’s get this started…
Phil is one of those creators you tend to automatically associate said artist/writer with Wonder Woman, as well as Donna Troy. He brought her into Diana’s book while he was writing and drawing her solo, to bringing her back to life in the four part special that paved the way for the Infinite Crisis event, that he worked on with Geoff Johns, that successfully restored the multiverse to the DC universe. So saying that Phil has an in-depth knowledge about these characters is a understatement. Phil’s giving the readers a trip down memory lane, and us compartmentalized inconsistencies, such as Hippolyta’s changing hair color, but it doesn’t make things convoluted mess.
This story really fleshed out Diana, that what may be lacking in action excels in the emotional impact. There’s a real love that’s felt between these characters. Phil’s really showcasing a loving bond between Diana, Hippolyta, the Titans, and so on, but what made the biggest impact was the memories that Donna had made with her late husband, Terry, and son, Robert. These scenes hits so hard, especially with the loss of someone so important like a spouse and a child. Especially when it comes to a member of the Titans, who tend to focus on these characters are more than just teammates. More than just friends. These characters are family, and that’s what Phil understands with these characters.
What can I say about Phil’s art? He’s been one of the greatest artists who has ever worked in the industry. Getting his start as a George Perez disciple, (which considering his style at the time, they weren’t wrong). But over the course of the last two decades refining his style into what we see today. You can still see his older style here, but it’s become more of a smoky, effervescent tone to it, and it looks really great here. I’d be hard pressed to find any flaws when it comes to Phil’s art. Just sensational.
Final Thoughts
Phil Jimenez has crafted a heartfelt and incredible story, giving us a deeper look into who Donna Troy is. We see her at her best, and her most painful tragedies she’s endured. Phil knows this character intimately, and showcases that here. It reads like a beautifully rendered love letter to these characters.
