Review

When the Beast World event started months back, it was exciting and while its sad to see it wrapping up, it’s even more exciting to see where the aftermath takes the Titans. Tom Taylor, on the Titans and the Beast World issues has been a phenomenal writer, presenting a suspenseful and creative story that DC, along with the rest of the creative team, should be proud of.

This issue manages to wrap up a good number from multiple subplots, such as the villain of Dr. Hate, the Titans’ relationship with the U.S. government and world perception of superheroes, and even turning citizens back into normal people instead of leaving them as animal mutations via beast spores. Spoilers! So now’s your chance to turn back. The fate of Beast Boy was a big one, and one I found myself constantly scared for. Overall, it was nice to see the Justice League take the backseat and watch the Titans fill in the gap for the more forefront superhero group.

Beast World, while amazing and necessary, wasn’t exactly perfect, however. There were some small things that really could’ve added to the event. In the beginning of the title, there was a small cameo by Animal Man, that if executed correctly could’ve started a whole other subplot or even lead to an Animal comic series, in which the character hasn’t had in years now. On top of that, the issues of Beast World Tour, where we got insight on how the beast spores affected major cities in the DC Universe , seemed to drag the event down a bit as most of them seemed far too unnecessary and even too bland to the point where it felt like a villain of the week TV episode.

Yet, the way the ending of this book paves the way for more adventures of the Titans is perhaps one of the best things about it as it starts a smooth transition into what’s next. We can expect to see Waller being a constant thorn in the side of the Titans, and even see Raven fighting amongst herself and her teams.

Final Thoughts

If there's anything left to be said, it's that the Titans belong to Tom Taylor!
