Tony Stark Iron Man #15
I just have to begin as a fan of Dan Slott, Iron Man and of course Tony Stark and say that Tony Stark Iron Man #15 is my absolutely favorite issue! Slott continues his signature by focusing on the “person” behind the “mask” as he builds the character. Slott makes the reader feel like he was born to write this superhero. Slott’s storytelling is more about the person who wins out despite the powers and all the trappings. He focuses on the character’s strengths and weaknesses as the story develops, which is clearly seen in each supporting character as well.
The bulk of Tony Stark Iron Man #15 ties our hero in court as he is being grilled on the violence, damages, and killings caused by the usage of eScape. Man oh man, Dan the man, “yes, I said it”, Slott immediately takes the reader front seat like watching an episode of Law & Order, but on a higher level. The best part of this congressional hearing is how Slott uses his signature of exceptional storytelling. Much kudos to Joe Caramanga on lettering, he increases the amplitude of emotions between Senator Miles Brickman and Mr. Stark. The way that Brickman produces, “exhibits” an A.I. version of Tony only to back fire on him as the personality is a lovely replica of the original. This was pure genius by Slott! There are multiple issues being addressed in this hearing as shown throughout this issue and Tony Stark drops one hell of a bombshell. This announcement may out top his original back in the day when Tony told the world he is Iron Man.
Meanwhile, two other members of the Avengers are ticked and outwitted by Jarvis! The action begins as the “master plan” develops within the next few pages.
This is where artists, Juanan Ramirez and Francesco Manna along with colorist, Edgar Delgado, shine with such details during the action sequences. By the end of this issue, Iron Man and The Wasp is defeated by a long time deadly foe and we will have to wait to see what happens next!
Diversity has always been a major topic to tackle and Tony Stark Iron Man #15 is a prime example. I love Dan Slott’s devotion to this major Marvel hero!
