Tony Stark Iron Man #7: Out of Control

First, I must say that Tony Stark Iron Man #7 has a HOT cover by Alexander Lozano! No doubt it will get plenty of attention with the flow of awesome colors. I will admit that for a brief moment, an intriguing chill came across me as it seems though a certain favorite symbiote may be involved. What? What did you think I was talking about? LOL.

Since most comic books are released on a monthly basis, readers often have to re-read the previous issue before reading the one in hand. However, not this time! Immediately at the beginning of this issue, Dan Slott and Jeremy Whitley quickly articulate the ending of last issue to panels of the beginning of Tony Stark Iron Man #7. The Controller is gathering his players and about to play a game of virtual human chess within this most popular game of all time in the Marvel Universe.

Video games walk a fine line when it comes to realism and Stark Unlimited has crossed that line with the virtual reality game eScape. In this issue, the Controller gives this system an upgrade as he sends care packages to the people he let back into the game and sets them off to begin some real world carnage. There are consequences for the unsuspecting victims to this evil plot. Tony has to outwit his foe and override his own creation as the safety protocols turn against him. As Iron Man, he fights his way out of the eScape, however, Amanda is not so lucky.

Most of this issue addresses how a man finally admits his feelings about his long estranged mother. I feel this is an important aspect of this book. Many readers may be able to relate in one way to another of having a disconnection with their parent or child. Unfortunately, when the hurt has been going on for a long time, simply saying; “I’m sorry” just is not enough! I applaud Slott’s and Whitley’s ability to weave steps of forgiveness with such grace and finesse into the fictional world. Also, can you imagine being confronted by your son’s dead father and step mother? Amanda can!

As the Controller is playing with Amanda’s emotions, he continues with the heart of his master plan. Tony knew the Controller would show up eventually, and he’s got a plan of action. Iron Man, Rhodey, and Wasp head out to take on the foe, which reveals banned members within eScape and conducting war games and shooter fantasies in the real World!

The artwork by Valerio Schiti and Edgar Delgado are amazing with such detail and beauty. You have to see for yourself to appreciate the talent.
