What Just Happened?
Writer Dan Slott takes the driver seat for Tony Stark: Iron Man by bringing a fresh look on each individual of supporting characters with a biotechnological story that surrounds him. Implementation of a plot at the beginning of the issue provides many possibilities for this story arc. Slott’s writing shows how Tony excelled in technology and how that early success impacts his future.
The story continues takes segments of the flashback and articulates them to the present reality surrounding Iron Man’s mission. A fun-loving, rich Tony Stark reconnects with a fellow childhood competitor in robotics. Slott’s writing is more like a pilot for a sitcom with the dramatic entrance at Andy Bhang’s garage.
Unlike some #1 issues that are set with no flare, Slott balances the set and comedy through the dialog that fits Tony’s ego. Stark baits and catches Bhang to Stark Unlimited. Where he expresses an abundance of excitement as the story leads to the attack by Fin Fang Foom, but wait… he’s not the true villain of this story. Buried between these events, we get a look at the workings of the IRONMAN idealism with the technological advancements, new armor, and the return of some classic characters, like Jocasta Pym, head of robotics division.
Valerio Schiti brings an anime vibe to Tony Stark: Iron Man #1. This fits well with this issue with the overarching storyline. Being able to show the scale of different characters and Iron Man suits seems effortlessly for schiti. The use of vibrant colors by Edgar Delgado throws some contrast and works well with the anime style perfectly!

Final Thought: Slott and his creative team capture the energy and voice of Tony Stark and the Iron Man idea persona. This issue uses tropes that made the first Iron Man film great. The art is kinetic and vibrant much like the title character. The style allows the story consistently flowing at a face pace. Slott’s reputation could only guild on the success of this first issue to be a tremendously successful arc.
