Review

This issue of Transformers was a very interesting read. I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but author Brian Ruckley makes this issue much more enjoyable and readable than the past several ones. There isn’t a huge change in the story, only a slight one, but I think it includes a much-needed change of characters that was needed. We get a couple of newer characters with a couple of iconic characters and the way they all interact is very unique and enjoyable. We also get a couple of Transformers that we haven’t seen in this incarnation of the Transformers (comic) incarnation. The way they’re portrayed is about what you’d expect, but it’’s still highly enjoyable and lots of fun, This book has a little more meat on its bones than normal, and that helps it out a great deal.

If could be that we have a new artist on the book, Fico Ossio. Ossio has a special knack for drawing the Transformers, one that’s not every anime-influenced or “mecha” when compared to other American comic books. That might upset some people, but it didn’t upset me in the least. As a fan who grew up with the Transformers cartoon in the 80s, this is what the Robots in Disguise should always look like. Stylized yet not overly detailed, these look like toys you could actually play with, not impossible Michael Bay inspired Transformers. A definite step in the right direction for the comic book part of the franchise, and I hope that the rest of the Transformers property follows its lead,

Final Thoughts

A really good issue. If you haven't read the book in a while, now might be the time to revisit it,
