Transformers Galaxies #3: More Than Meets the Eye!

Transformers Galaxies #3 is the best issue of the series so far. After reading this, I realize that the previous two issues have been a set-up and now we’re getting into the real meat of the story. Writer Tyler Bleszinski goes pretty deep into the psyche of the Constructicons and Devastators. Imagine, six unique minds, not hive minds, but six separate minds forming a seventh, independent being that doesn’t quite get along with the others, because he’s aware of the fact that if they disjoin, he will cease to exist. The pages that explore this situation are downright fascinating. Never have I read a comic about toys that goes this deep into the psychology and honestly, that’s only about five pages of the issue.

The rest of the story is very well told, too. There are some interesting developments and a certain character turns out to be a bit of a mystery. Even though this is the penultimate issue of this story, I think the character is going to be developed a lot further in the next issue. Again, I could be totally wrong and isn’t that the job of a comic writer – to make you think about the story for the next month until the following issue comes out? There was one part of the story that I wasn’t 100% in love with. There’s a point where Wheeljack goes in front of the Cybertronian council to warn the, about the Constructicons and it honestly reminded me a lot of parts of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon goes before the Jedi Council. It’s a lot of talking in a book where you want some more action. It doesn’t ruin the issue by any means, but it does kind of slow down the momentum of the story,

Again, we get Livio Ramondelli on art and again, he does a very good job. He’s got the Constructicons down pat, they look perfect. The same goes for Wheeljack and he does a fantastic job of building an Iacon that exists before the one that we all will come to know. There’s a great double-page spread that starts off the issue, and from there he takes off running. In this issue, he makes some very unique choices with how he lays out his panels. Some of them get the point across and are very fun to look at, but honestly, sometimes it misses, I don’t think the color choices that he made helped the matter, either. But fortunately, there are more hits than misses and the art is overall pretty good!
