Review

I wish I could use more descriptive words for this book. But the one word that kept going through my mind as I read this was “charming”. Although it really does describe this book, though. This story is the second part of “Wannabee”, which began earlier this month in the regular Transformers book. Authors Kate Leth and Cohen Edenfield continue their tale of Cliffjumper and a really bad case of mistaken identity and they also throw in a nice subplot about being underestimated. Even if you didn’t read the first part (and I suggest that you do), you’re not going to be lost, because of the way the authors manage to subtly weave all the info you could possibly need from the first part into this issue by using dialogue. Looking back, there is a lot that’s going on in this issue, but it never moves too fast or gets too bogged down in continuity or hyperdetailed. It moves at an almost perfect pace, place the majority of the action about ¾ of the way through the book. I was pretty surprised the way Leth and Edenfield wrapped up the story, but it totally fits the character of Cliffjumper. Again, it’s…..charming.

If you’ve read a Transformers book in the last bunch of years, then you know how fantastic Alex Milne is. In fact, when you look at books like this one, it’s easy to tell why he’s one of Transformers fandoms’ favorite artists. Everything is SO detailed, he never misses a wire or screw throughout the whole book, but it’s never messy or overwhelming like some other Transformers books that I’ve seen in the past. Mile keeps things straight and to the point, but also turned up to 11.

Final Thoughts

A fun story. It won't blow your mind or change your life, but it'll get your brain outta this world for a little bit, and I think that's a win!
