Review

This latest issue of The Transformers vs. The Terminator may be the best one yet because it has more action and story than the last two combined. Writers John Barber, David Mariotte, and Tom Waltz have actually crafted a really intricate story for this series, and you don’t realize it until the third act, that’s when the plan comes together if you will. I honestly wouldn’t have minded if they’d have hit some of the story beats in this issue a little earlier in the series, because the first two issues were a little light. Now, everyone’s introduced, the conflict has happened and the authors can really roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. What results is a lot of surprises, some awesome callbacks, and finally getting to what we all love about these characters. My only complaint is that The Terminator is almost a background character, but I have a feeling that he’s moving towards a bigger role in the overall story. The bottom line, THIS issue is what you want in your crossover between the two properties.

Alex Milne is a fantastic Transformers artist. I’ve liked his work for quite a while on these books, but I’m surprised how much I enjoy his Terminator part of the book. I don’t think I’d hate it if he did a Terminator mini-series. He’s got the tech, characters, and environments down pat. There’s a lot of machine going on in this issue, but he’s careful never to make some tech look like other tech and you never get confused with what’s what. He’s also got a really good 80s vibe when it comes to southern California in the early 80s. Great work on this issue!

Final Thoughts

A pretty good issue!! Things get rollin', it's really action-heavy and it looks awesome. There is no reason NOT to buy this comic.
