Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion #4
Recap
A heart-to-heart with Mother leads Vanya (a.k.a. The White Violin) to reassess what makes her special. Two of her siblings are caught in a shootout, and two more have a cosmic moment, while the bad guys infiltrate the Hotel.
Review
Gerard Way doing an amazing job expanding the Umbrella Academy universe in this latest series and the newest issue is quite possibly the most eventful and emotional issue of Hotel Oblivion so far. Plots that originally seemed unrelated, with the characters all separated for varying reasons, are starting to tie together into an incredibly interesting story.
Likewise, Gabriel Bá is doing an outstanding job with the art. The emotion in many of the scenes hits as soon as you turn the page; from the bleakness of Seance alone in a run down, empty house to the uncertain gray void when “Mom” is speaking to Vanya at the pier. The scenes taking place in the Afterspace we’re beautifully cyber psychedelic.
I am excited to see where this story leads in the remaining three issues. Hotel Oblivion has thus far been worth the wait in my opinion.
