Review
Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime #1 begins with the feeling and vibe of a What If..? Story that Marvel has made a reoccurring story device over the past several decades.
The story opens during the 1947 “Christmas on Bear Mountain” the story by Carl Barks and the appearance of Scrooge McDuck. Unlike in the original Dell Comics, Donald and his nephews don’t show up sending Scrooge down a dark and lonely path, one that involves becoming the richest duck in all the worlds. The story shifts to the Ducktails version of Uncle Scrooge, who along with Huey, Dewey, and Louie are fending off the Beagle Boys as Scrooge from before returns calling himself The Scrooge Above All and steals Scrooge’s money bin.
As the story unfolds Aaron weaves classic Ducktails tidbits such as Huey, Dewey, and Louie mentioning that the Multiverse is mentioned in the Woodchuck Guidebook, Gyro Gearloose, and Mirror of Magica De Spell seamlessly. Aaron captures the personalities and speech patterns of Scrooge and his nephews like they were in the cartoon series. There is also plenty of humor as a multiverse of Scrooges band together to take on and redeem the Scrooge Above All.
The artwork in the book is stunning and brings the story to life and while each chapter is done by a different artist there are differences in style but they are subtle enough as to not take away from the story.
The addition of the original “Christmas on Bear Mountain” and Aaron’s introduction round out the issue well and show his passion for the character and respect for the character of Scrooge.
Final Thoughts
Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime #1 is a love letter by Aaron that combines the Carl Barks' Uncle Scrooge and the DuckTales cartoon series into a reality-bending good time.
It is also a promising sign of what's to come as Marvel celebrates the 90th Anniversary of Donald Duck this summer in the What If ? Stories.
