Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck #1 – Life Is Like An Alien Invasion, If In Duckberg

Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck #1 marks Jason Aaron’s return to Duckberg’s wealthiest and crankiest fowl in an original story that promises to explore Scrooge’s past in order to save his (and everyone else’s) future.

The premise is fairly straightforward: aliens called The Connoisseurs have invaded Earth and like they have done throughout the universe, collecting the most obscure antiquities the planet has to offer. Not impressed with what they have forced Earthlings to loot from the museums, they set their sights on Scrooge’s Number One Dime and his fabled fortune.

Scrooge isn’t the only duck to make an appearance, as Donald is saved from a fiery death at the hands of the aliens by Huey, Dewey and Louie, better known as The Woodchucks or The Rebellion.

There is plenty of action to go along with the setup of the story, which is well-paced and has comedic elements in the correct spots to break the tension, but not bog down the story. Aaron deftly channels Carl Barks in this opener which promises to be a fun ride for fans of Scrooge McDuck comics and the Ducktails animated show. This continues the feel of The Infinity Dime, yet is something new at the same time.

The art, handled by three groups of arts and colorists mesh nicely and keeps the art and colorwork fresh, as each group has a clean style that is not that different from the others.
