Venom #12
Recap
Eddie and his Other are separated at last thanks to the villainous Maker. Before it leaves the Symbiote takes care of some much needed business!
Review
Man, this arc ends a bit abruptly but I figure it’s mostly to clear the slate for next month’s War of the Realms to kick into gear. The symbiote apparently awakens fully and escapes, getting rid of Eddie’s dad in the process. It seems a bit on the tidy side, I could have used a little more to this arc I think.
The art by guest artist Joshua Cassara with colors by the talented Rain Baredo is pretty great especially the shots of Maker zapping Eddie, holy crap it was cool. I also really liked the Symbiote confronting Eddie’s dad at the scene of his trauma.
I did want to mention the cover, although i dislike the misrepresentation of this entire arcs covers in that Venom as we know him has not been present and secondly the Maker making a cover appearance is silly since he’s in maybe 3 panels, despite all this I really like this cover!
Although I am excited for War of the Realms, (I’m covering the entire event actually) it is definitely messing with some of the current ongoing series as events and tie ins often do, and this is no exception. The events all seem to end a little too quickly and cleanly. Not to mention judging by the cover to next issue I assume the next issues, War of the Realms tie ins written by Cullen Bunn, will disregard the current events of Venom entirely. Not that that’s this issue’s problem. Just something that makes it hard to gauge current events.
Final Thoughts
The arc ends as quickly as it started with no small amount of intrigue. This Venomless Venom arc will make a great TPB.
