Venom #23

Recap
We have been thrown into the fire since arriving on the island. Eddie went nuclear and cut his hand off, Dylan & Sleeper are at odds with how Dylan is handing his “pet symbiote”. What a life!
Review
When “Venom Island” started I was a bit apprehensive, because we’ve already taken this trip with Spidey a while back. After these past three issues, I have been proved wrong page after page. Eddie continues to be driven by pure emotion in his efforts to rid the world of Carnage once and for all.
The problem is, he doesn’t know what Dylan has been hiding. The damage this will do to Eddie upon his return to Dylan will surely spawn a whole new bag of problems. On one hand, you have the Venom and Carnage symbiotes battling for absolute supremacy, and then you have Dylan who we are slowing realizing is an omega level symbiote who in all his infinite teenage wisdom thought it was a great idea to keep a piece of the Carnage symbiote as a pet. Sleeper contests the idea and demands Dylan get rid of it before things get out of hand.
The fact that this piece of symbiote has the ability to communicate with Dylan and provide him with visions in real-time, but cannot bond with him is proving that his current arc is leading to something much bigger than any symbiote, and possibly bigger than Knull. If Dylan can make this symbiote feel pain and manipulate it as he sees fit, what other powers lay in wait. Now how this is going to affect Eddie is another piece of this puzzle. Not only have you altered your body in order to rid yourself of your greatest enemy, but now your son may turn into that very entity. Venomaniacs all over wait with bated breath to see what happens next. The only problem is we must wait for a whole month!
Final Thoughts
Cates and Bagley continue to perfectly capture every single detail that makes every single panel believably real and tell a story that continues to be one of the best on the shelves. Just when you think you have an idea of what direction Cates is going in, you turn the page and find yourself in a state of shock and surprise.
