Review
Here we are again, folks! I say that with all the admiration in the world for this book. This creative team is one of the best-assembled right now. Fight me later, but you know it’s true. We start with Eddie in recovery and under monitoring by the Avengers, and rightly so I suppose, but that is just the tip of the iceberg in Venom #24. Eddie’s off the island but is still reeling from the effects, Carnage is in his head and Eddie continues to suffer because of it. The biggest is when Cap tells him that Knull is here and the bodies are piling up. The two-page scene of Knull is creepy, scary, and feels very real…thank you, Mark Bagley and Andy Owens! Chilling page after chilling page finally reveals a disturbingly eery depiction of Cletus Kasady as Eddie’s doctor…it may be time to switch your HMO, Eddie!
Now stay with me, are you ready?
EDDIE IS STILL ON THE ISLAND! I literally jump out of my seat, comic popped out of my hand, and my mind was blown! Carnage binds with Eddie and Carnage has big plans for them. Plans of murder, mayhem, and destruction are on the menu. Or are they? We cannot forget about the unsung star of the show, Dylan! I’ve been saying this forever that Dylan is the story that we’ve been reading, we just didn’t know it. Issue 24 sees the young man start to come into his own in a badass type of way. Sleeper is still around trying his hardest to keep Dylan on the straight and narrow and help keep his mind straight…it might be too late for that. Dylan discovers he can control the symbiote without actually binding with it. Now kids, who is the only other person to be able to do this..Knull. Now the question gets posed, how strong is Dylan? Is he as strong as Knull? Is he stronger than Knull? What we do know is that Dylan has had enough and has decided to take things into his own hands, and in those hands are the massive V-Rex!
Final Thoughts
I’ve been reading Venom comics since the early 90s. He has been a constant favorite of mine regardless of the host. Venom #24 has taken me back to my teenage years when I would read a Venom book and my mouth was ajar the whole time I was turning pages. Anticipation, fear, and excitement all in one book.
