Virus catches up to Venom and Eddie but that is only the tip of the iceberg until the Avengers show up but are they really Avengers?

Review

This winter will see the King in Black take center stage in the Marvel Universe and in Venom #27 we get an ever so slight taste of what is possibly to come. Eddie and Dylan continue to struggle with their new settings. Upon opening the book, we are greeted with flags with an all so familiar red symbol and it is everywhere. Does this mean that in 1610 Knull has taken complete control over the universe?

Donny Cates and Juan Gedeon team-up brilliantly in this book. The fight scenes between Virus and Venom are upfront and, in your face, and take on a 3D type of feel. Gedeon brings Cates’ words to life and makes it a beautiful visual experience. From facial expressions to the environment, to amazing linework Gedeon brings Venom and his world to you in full unrelenting force. Donny Cates loves to punish Eddie, I mean the poor guy cannot catch a break, however, that’s what makes Cates a great fit for Venom. Venom is supposed to be a brute force that does not know when to stop.

Cates continues to tease the coming of Knull and what is in store for the world. In Venom #27 Cates does not hold back and displays a magnificent ability of adjustment to the speed of the story from Virus and Venom, to the Symbiote Avengers, and then to add even more “what the f*ck” moments a HUGE appearance at the end to make you crave Venom #28 and what is to come. Donny Cates continues to reign brilliance over all things Venom and really has mastered the craft of setting up the next story. Speaking of setting up the next story, if you are not picking your jaw up off the floor after the end of Venom #27 you may need to check your pulse.

Final Thoughts

Here we are, another Venom issue down and another appearance of Knull and a visit to the Ultimate Universe. I’m not too sure what to think about being in 1610 and if I like Eddie and Dylan in 1610, however, this is Donny Cates. He knows Venom and he knows how to tell a great Venom story and that is what this is.
