Recap

The end of Venom Beyond is here but the fun is just getting started. Mac has caught his last wind and plans to make Eddie pay for their past transgressions. The two Dylans finally come face to face in what is a pretty solid set up for King in Black.

Review

Venom #30 is here and Venom Beyond has come to a blockbuster ending as only Donny Cates can do. Right out of the gates Otto has made a grand discovery that should both concern and scare any Venom fan as to what could possibly happen within the Venom Universe and knowing how powerful Codex is I am more scared than anything of the possibilities especially with King in Black right around the corner.

Eddie and Annie continue to take center stage with their allies as they plan to finally deal with Codex and free the citizens from his horrible hand. Cates continues to redefine the entire Venom storyline by injecting his trademark writing style peppering in new emotions and feelings that continue to make fans ravenous for more like a symbiote looking for a new host. This is ever so evident as the book progresses and we see Annie and Dylan interact resulting in a heartfelt moment that puts this crazy story in a different perspective for those two. Just because they are from two different dimensions their hearts are not.

The battle scene is brilliant and makes you want to take up Cap’s shield and scream “Avengers Assemble” at the top of your lungs and a huge part of this is the brilliant visuals laid down by Luke Ross’ art and Jesus Aurtov’s colors. The pair come up with a gritty world that captures the story and its environment exceptionally well. You can almost feel the symbiote’s tentacles reach out for you. Now with that being said, as previously stated in my recap I mentioned that the two Dylans come together. All I am going to say about that particular panel is this. It’s awesome. It screams Donny Cates, it screams Venom, it screams Dylan continues to be a complete badass. I don’t want to give too much away because this issue is a great stopping point for a solid story arc and sets up King in Black beautifully.

Final Thoughts

Donny Cates continues to spoil the Venomaniacs with hit after hit. Venom #30 is a great example of how to end an arc by mixing the right amount of action, emotion, and intrigue. This is such a great time to be a Venom fan.
