Review
Welcome to the Venom War! You get a symbiote, you get a symbiote, EVERYONE GETS A SYMBIOTE! And we couldn’t be more ecstatic. If Venomous #1 is any indication of what is in store for the rest of the tie-ins, we are in for one hell of a ride. The book opens with the tone of familiar wartime greed dressed as innovation or protection. All is going well for our dear investors.. until it’s not. As Natasha and Sliver wait in the wings waiting to sprig like a bear trap in the woods, they soon find out that these aren’t your daddy’s symbiotes!
As Widow springs into action, all hell breaks loose with Luciano Vecchio’s art leading the charge. At times I got the feeling of being a kid again and being mesmerized by how larger than life the characters appeared to be. Fight scenes, poses, facial expressions, etc; Vecchio amazingly captures the essence of superheroes and villains alike, regardless of title. When combined with Vecchio’s art, Rachelle Rosenberg’s buffet of visuals harkens back to the classic superhero comics. Larger-than-life characters with bold colors that seem to jump off the page… how could you not love and crave more? Erica Shultz is doing Erica Shultz things again. How can I get more Natasha and Sliver?! I adored their relationship, again seeing how Natasha and Sliver interact as Widow harkens back to that awesomely familiar relationship between symbiote and host. The Venom War may end, but we need more of Widow!
Final Thoughts
Super fun book! Honestly, tie-ins are hit or miss with me, but with Venomous #1, I wanted more! I’m bummed that this is only 3 issues, I would love to see this team on a regular symbiote series.
