Review
Carnelia continues to question and challenge her existence. Now, with the death of The Sentinel, she will stop at nothing to avenge his death and get answers from those responsible.
Maria Llovett continues to bulldoze through the industry with her exciting storytelling and captivating visuals. In her latest offering, Violent Flowers, Maria introduces us to Carnelia and her brood of vampires. In true Llovett fashion, Violent Flowers give us characters woven into an addictive plot line.
As the story opens you can already get a sense of the shadow network that is working behind the scenes in what has the stones to evolve into something more grand as the series goes on. While we can easily see the brood is not on the same sheet of music, however, Carnelia’s way of life sings the loudest. A Vampire must feed and sleep to maintain their power, but Carnelia’s fighting a silent battle that may kill her. We see her fighting this urge, an addiction (if you will). Her life is her addiction and it drives her mad.
Vampire stories can be a crowded room, but Llovet spins one hell of an undead yarn that sits nicely with the stories of vampires past. Violent Flowers could be her most ambitious work to date which is all the more reason to add this title to your pull list.
Final Thoughts
Maria Llovett is one of those creators that has become an instant buy whenever I see her name on the shelf. Violent Flowers is no exception; the only downside is waiting for the next issue.
