War of the Realms: Champions #5
Recap
The Champions, thanks to some portal jumping "wizard did it" level shenanigans, reunite with former teammate Scott Summers and fight trolls in Australia!
Review
All in all a decent issue that, like last weeks Avengers issue, uses the War of the Realms as a way to bring in an endless army to beat down. I actually really like this tie in strategy as it makes the issue not vital within the event, but gives us a global conflict feel pretty effortlessly.
I did enjoy the reunion of Scott and Kamala, who were teammates when Scott was young Scott (and this Scott was dead) X-men timelines are dumb. That said I liked their interaction a lot and the action looked great, although Scott uses his powers a whole lot which he isn’t supposed to be able to do per Uncanny X-men (his skull is fractured and if he uses his eye blasts the force could shatter it as of Uncanny #15 or so?) but as he is in his team’s book he wouldn’t be much help in a fight with trolls. Good stuff from Jim Zub.
The art by Juanan Ramirez and Marcio Menyz looks great, although faces get off model at a could points I love the action and the brief glimpse of the X-men look excellent.
Final Thoughts
A fun entry in Champions and War of the Realms that doesn't derail the team book to toady to the event, but manages to feature both organically.
