War of the Realms: Tony Stark Iron Man #13
Recap
Sadurang attacks Wall Street (maybe he isn't so evil after all?) and infects every bit of tech he contacts with some type of magical computer virus, prompting Tony to go old school!
Review
A really fun issue with some just brilliant moments. I love Sadurang talking with the old homeless guy, the fact that he successfully burns down Wall Street and Tony going all magic. The Shazam moment made me laugh out loud and the frog attack must have made Mignola green with envy. Damn good job to Gail Simone! The plot does wrap up a tad conveniently but it’s a 2 issue event tie in mini it’s supposed to be a quick easy read.
The use of the Mark I suit might be a hair problematic in my eyes simply because (and it isn’t to say it wasn’t rectified at one point I’m not quite the expert on Iron Man I am on most other Marvel heroes) the Mark II suit (the gold one) was created by Gold plating the Mark I (because his girlfriend thought the Mark I was ugly, ah Silver age nonsense depiction of women), so an unaltered Mark I suit shouldn’t really exist, it should be a Mark II. I didn’t factor this into the score or anything FYI it’s an insanely minor nitpick that might not even be valid, just wanted to note it.
The art by Paolo Villanelli and Edgar Delgado is GREAT! It’s a hair on the stylized side but definitely nails an odd combination of fantasy and almost like a noir feel like the cover of an old paperback. Really dang good.
Final Thoughts
A fun issue that is by no means required reading in the War of the Realms (in fact it takes pains not to overlap with the main series), but still recommended if you like seeing Iron Man a bit out of his wheelhouse.
