War of the Realms: Uncanny X-men #1
Recap
The X-men find themselves drafted into the War of the Realms thanks to Dani Moonstar, fighting their way across New York City they call all hands on deck to try and find their teammates.
Review
I didn’t hate this issue but it felt unbelievably forced in the context of the main ongoing series. It was a fine issue with lots of action it just doesn’t feel organic at all and seemed to shoehorn characters in for effect, that said fans of Havok, Magik and Wolfsbane might like this as it features them more prominently than the main X series, although fans of the main series might have trouble placing this in the timeline as Rahne left the team last issue, which is fine now but in a few weeks 3 issues in it might bother me more.
My main trouble with this issue is although it pushes the team deep into enemy territory it doesn’t do anything to explain what’s going on in either series, obviously I know the answer but there are an easy dozen questions i might have if I wasn’t reading Uncanny X-men that aren’t addressed at all. Additionally people seem to get lost just to give the team something to do, meh.
The art by Pere Perez and was really good thanks to the action packed nature of the issue, everyone looks awesome and I love the way Havok looks using his powers, which was frequent, almost every page, actually.
All in all I consider this issue most likely skippable in the grand WOTR scheme of things, but it did have some fun moments.
Final Thoughts
Not a bad issue I just expect better from the phenomenal Matt Rosenberg.
