In the last issue our heroes struggles reached boiling point as Billy suffered a moral dilemma unable to come to a decision on whose side in the galactic war he would take. After a high octane and wonderfully bonkers show down on Monster Planet and a shocking twist that would bring further tragedy to the team how will they pull through in the as we take another step closer to the series finale.
Review
I have to start this review with talking about Sherman and Wordie. Their work on Wasted Space has been phenomenal from the get go offering a totally unique experience and a new take on the term eye candy. Issue #22 sees what is the best art of the series with some absolutely breath taking layouts, stunning colour work and gorgeous emotional character focus Sherman and Wordie have completely out done themselves.
#22 is an absolute emotional tour de force which sees the characters reach new heights in terms of growth and personal strengths. Billy takes one step closer to becoming the hero we never thought he could be but always hoped he would– but is this going to lead to a happy ending for our Space Rascal?
We truly see what Michael Moreci is capable of when it comes to his genius and the ability to amplify the the bananas and mind boggling aspects of the genre. Moreci has already solidified his place as one of the new greats who’s work on titles such as The Plot and the new Barbaric elevated him to new heights on the indie comics scene. In issue 22 Moreci takes queues from Moore, Morrison and Kirby expanding the Wasted Space’s Universe and adding even more psychedelic goodness that is loudly brought to life by the sheer force of Sherman and Wordie’s art.
Just when you think it’s all over, of course another jaw dropping twist throws a spanner into the works and leaves you begging for a happy ending for the team of misfists.
Final Thoughts
I may be slightly biased considering this is my favourite title from my favourite publisher but Wasted Space has not missed the mark yet and I have every faith it will land it's finale smoothly.
Throughout Wasted Space the creative team have managed to create a team of characters we are so completely invested in that they feel like legacy characters. They are the Guardians of the Galaxy of independent comics and will be so badly missed once it's all over. But for now let's pray it doesn't all end in tragedy for Billy Bane.
