Review

So all things considered the Weapon IV story isn’t half bad, the idea of weaponizing Man-Thing is pretty dope and a cool approach to Ted Sallis’s origins that haven’t been touched upon from this angle in Lord knows how long. Benjamin Percy goes a solid job making a brand new character feel familiar and leaves him on a note that gives plenty of potential for reappearance and development later on. There is some overlap with why people loved Weapon H so that might feel like a bit of a retread but the differences in powers and personality makes up for it. All in all not a story that reinvents the wheel but still adds some cool flavor to the Weapon Plus world that has historically stayed glued to Wolverine and Wolverine related things only.

The backup feature breathes new life into Brute Force, a campy yet entertaining team of cyborg animals. This brief glimpse into their potential comeback is just enough to stir up some excitement for what may come next. In the post WE3 era the concept of weaponized animals has what should be a nonexistent bar set ridiculously high so hopefully Ryan Cady and the gang are up to the task.

Final Thoughts

A grand mix of gritty action and the sort of zany ideas you can only do in comics, perfect afternoon read to kick up your feet and get lost in for a bit.
