Recap

Mystique is at a Breakworld settlement in Oakland, delivering Nuke pills in return for a LOT of money. Of course, the Breakworld representative tries to double-cross her which is when Mystique brings in Weapon X-Force, who easily dispatches the Breakworld soldiers and secures the money. That’s more than enough for Domino to call it quits, but Sabretooth has one last job…rescuing one of their own from a cult.

The religious cult in question has taken in Monet St. Croix and Sabretooth have been hired to get her out. However, they quickly discover that M is the one who hired them in an attempt to turn them to the cult.  She is controlled by Mentallo.  Deathstrike injects the team and then M with nanobots to free them from Mentallo’s control, but before the team can turn on their would be captor, they find he has another employee:

Deadpool.

Review

Okay, okay. We’ve all heard about the orange suits for over a month now and everybody’s had a good laugh at them. But can we seriously move past this? Personally, I kind of like them…even on Mystique.

It’s a fun ride, from start to finish. Yildiray’s art is beautiful and so nice to look at that you forget about the problems he normally has. D’armata’s colors are vibrant (yes, even the orange uniforms). And the dialogue and narration are fantastic. The patter between Sabretooth and Mystique is funny and feels like two old friends who can’t stand each other (which isn’t far from the truth since they’ve tried to kill each other as often as they’ve fought side by side).  And the introductions to the characters feel like they were written by the characters themselves.

And let’s not forget the biggest part of this issue: M is back!  And she’s drawn beautifully by Cinar, leaping off the page.

It’s a great issue from start to finish, and easily one of my favorite issues of Weapon X.

Final Thoughts

If you haven’t read Weapon X yet, this is the issue to start. If you stopped, this issue would be a great one to jump back on. It’s a fun issue and what the title should have been from start to finish.
