Review

Logan and his allies barely manage to escape the onslaught of Nuke as they continue their search for Tyler As they close in on the secrets being hidden by the PrimeWarrior program, what they discover will have cataclysmic consequences for the world.

We’ve reached the penultimate issue of this prelude to Avengers: Armageddon and yet it feels like not much at all has happened to meaningfully build towards the event. There is some more context given to COlton’s past, specifically the ramifications of his Super Soldier procedure as well as what happened on his first mission before the shield but that’s probably the meatiest part of this issue. The biggest problem of the series as a whole is its treatment of Tyler. He’s all over the covers and despite him being the entire reason this plot kicks off in the first place, he barely shows up across these four issues. He’s more of a macguffin than an actual character, and that doesn’t seem to be changing heading into the finale.

Zdarsky continues to tell an entertaining story, but it’s hard to see it as anything other than fluff in the penultimate issue. Colton given more fleshing out is good and Logan remains well-written, but everyone else around them truffles to feel important especially Tyler and the main antagonist of the story Nick Pruet, the leader of PrimeWarrior who mostly just stands around and looks like an evil CEO until the final page reveal.

Luca Maresca’s art is still good, but there’s not much else to say that hasn’t been said about the previous issues. Colton’s flashback did have some nice colors courtesy of Jesus Aburtov.

Final Thoughts

WoA #3 is a serviceable issue but lacks the impact of what a penultimate issue should be. With one more issue left, hopefully it can end strong.
