Wonder Woman #770: I am Diana, I am a Warrior (SPOILER-FREE REVIEW)

Hello Diana, so glad you could make it. By now no one should be surprised at how good the stories are coming out of Future State; there simply was not a bad book in the bunch. So how does a company go about keeping readers interested in the next wave of super-hero stories? For starters, you can assemble a creative team as impressive as any team on the shelves today. We might as well call them the Super Friends because Michael Conrad, Becky Cloonan, Travis Moore, Tamra Bonvillain, and Pat Brosseau are just that. They have joined forces and produced a magnificent Wonder Woman story but also continue to dive into Diana’s soul which in itself is a beautiful battle. 

The great thing about comics is they are essentially Legos on paper. You can always add, subtract, and if the mood is right you can do a full rebuild and test the waters. On that note, Conrad and Cloonan are master architects of their craft and when it comes to Wonder Woman we are finding out they are simply shattering old builds, however, when rebuilding they pay the utmost respect to the lore. They could have simply dropped Diana off in the middle of nowhere, had her battle some ugly-looking aliens, and called it a day, BUT THEY DIDN’T! Instead, they gave us a soul-searching tale of someone with who we are very familiar but with a twist that we haven’t seen with Wonder Woman, or at least done well. 

The story is not the only thing done well in Wonder Woman #770. We have just begun to dig into this herculean team of creators. The stellar art team of Travis Moore, Tamra Bonvillain, and Pat Brosseau bring their richly detailed talent to Valhalla to tell their own story through enchanting hues that play perfectly to Conrad and Clooney’s story. Everything in Asgard is better when these three are at the helm of the artistic battleship. The detail on every page brilliantly translates their passion for their craft. 

There seems there is new life roaming the hallowed halls of DC Comics and it’s books like this that are a direct result of that new life. Regardless of your knowledge of Wonder Woman or how long you have been reading her, #770 is the perfect starter kit. It literally has EVERYTHING that a Wonder Woman book should have: her bravery, her heart, her resilience, and her attitude.
