WONDER WOMAN #774

Recap
Diana finds Olympus in ruins. Part 2 of her afterlife journey begins full throttle as she finds out who is responsible for this heinous atrocity.
Review
A Greek murder mystery delivered with literary precision as only Michael Conrad and Becky Cloonan can provide. The amount of research, soul, and love that they have put in this book is mind-numbing. Along with Andy McDonald, Nick Falardi, and Pat Brousseau on art, colors, and letters this creative team is making it really hard for the other books on the shelves.
Comics are good. Comics are great when the characters are front and center in the story without being pretentious. We what characters will stick with us. We what characters that will start good conversations. We want characters that we can believe in. Diana has always been that character. She’s classic in every sense of the word. It’s only natural that her stories should be as well.
We are knee-deep in the Conrad and Cloonan era and with their second arc starting to form we see our heroine tested and in true Wonder Woman she is up to any challenge the world throws at her, even when there are dead gods involved. I love that we see a frustrated Diana as she seeks answers on the afterlife that was supposed to be hers. The reveal is on par with what we’ve seen so in this current creative run so readers can expect a thrill ride with a clever ending. The ending sometimes is the beginning. As Diana starts her pursuit of finding out what happened to the gods and who’s responsible just might lead her on a hellish path with answers she may not want.
This book was super fun. If you didn’t crack a smile and give a nod of approval when Boston Brand showed up, then you might want to check your comic book pulse because it may not be working. Murder, mystery, Greek mythology, Conrad, and Cloonan… what’s not to love?
Final Thoughts
I love Greek mythology and I love Wonder Woman so I’m in resting easy in the Elysian Fields with this current run on Wonder Woman. Who knows when she will get this whole afterlife thing settled and I’m ok with that because we are getting some of the best Wonder Woman we’ve seen in a very long time. Writing, art, ink, lettering, the whole package is absolutely well done.
