Wonder Women: Agent of Peace #1: Her World, Her Lasso, Her Brand of Justice!

Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti are back at the helm with Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #1. Wonder Woman is tracking down Simon Wickett, a crime boss who happens to be in the right place at the right time when buildings blow up, and the property is put up for sale. As Wonder Woman starts to put the pieces together, she takes out the low-level henchmen that stand in her way. This is where the traffic seems to thin out because the closer she gets to Simon, the easier the henchmen give up vital information on his whereabouts. The road takes her to Coney Island where she meets up with an unlikely sidekick. Enter Harley Quinn. This team-up is perfectly done with the right amount of comedy and awesome conversation between the two, that only this team could pull off. One of my favorite aspects of this book is Amanda and Jimmy’s ability to capture great monologue be it in a fight scene, general conversation, or comedic discourse it comes through brilliantly as ever.

Throughout the book, both Diana and Harley encounter people who do not believe who they say they are and what follows is good back and forth, and when someone is getting beaten or thrown through a window. Now, sometimes writers can be hit or miss with something like this but have no fear when Amanda and Jimmy are penning a book, we are in good hands. The cat and mouse game between Wonder Woman and Simon is executed beautifully; it would have been odd to have a head to head battle between the two. Another great angle I really enjoyed with this book was Amanda and Jimmy did not try to create new and mysterious enemies or make Wonder Woman something she is not. They kept the story intriguing and funny while putting their famed story-telling stamp on it.

Along with great storytelling, there needs to be great art to go along with it, and that is where Inaki Miranda comes in. Inaki Miranda’s art tells its own story, at times almost being able to feel what was going on in the panels. From Diana falling to planes catching fire, and to Harley dressing as Wonder Woman, Inaki’s art brilliantly lends aid to this well-written book. This book was entertaining on all levels, and very well executed, and very much worth your time.
