Review

In the second installment of DC’s Digital Firsts, Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #2 is on a different track than what we saw in issue #1 with Diana and Harley teaming up. With “Curse of the K2” we the see the team of Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti writing an action-packed story that has a fabulous mix of brutality and emotion. Alongside Jimmy and Amanda are the are Daniel Sampere and Juan Albarran who absolutely excel at delivering great art with such awesome depth on landscapes, action sequences, and characters.

Amanda and Jimmy take us to the Chinese-Pakistan border where a group of climbers has gone missing. Have no fear, Lois Lane is on the case. On her way over, her plane gets derailed on the account of a flock of geese which sends the plane to its fiery demise. Lois thankfully survives the ordeal but must bury her pilot. Frightened, cold, and alone Lois sees a mysterious woman whom she follows into a nearby cave, and now being stranded in the middle of nowhere is the least of Lois’ problems. Enter Shan Xiao an ancient demonic beast fueled by the earth is the one who has taken the climbers and now plans to kill Lois as he did with one of the climbers.

Wonder Woman has her hands full as well. While sitting in the hospital in the Philippines after helping with a natural disaster, seeing on the tv that Lois’ plane has gone down. Arriving at the base camp, Diana seeks their help in finding the area of the climbers and the downed plane. The fight scenes between Wonder Woman and Shan Xiao are extraordinary in both dialogue and art. Seeing Lois and Wonder Woman work in harmony to save the surviving climbers and destroy Shan was a remarkable way to start the ending of the book. Combine that with the end scenes in the café, really put a bow on an extraordinary story.

Final Thoughts

There is a lot going on with Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #2. We see a great pairing with Wonder Woman and Lois, great environment art, and the uneasiness of everyone is in danger with great fluid movement in the story. Seeing Lois handle herself with such grace in the face of danger was fantastic. This was a great story, plain and simple.
